Let’s be honest—when something good happens to us, we talk about it. Loudly. We cannot wait to tell somebody.
You find a $50 dress marked down to $4.99? You’re posting it on Facebook and telling your bestie before you even make it to the car.
You get engaged? The ring is flashing in every photo, and your caption is “Y’ALL!!! HE PUT A RING ON IT!!! 💍”
My personal favorite: You find a new food spot with the best wings in town? You’re texting your whole foodie friend group to say, “We’re going here next Friday!”
Why do we do that? Because it’s good news. It makes us happy, and happiness begs to be shared.
Well, in Mark 1:40–45, we meet a man who received the best news of his life: he was healed from leprosy.
Leprosy wasn’t just a physical disease—it was a life sentence of isolation. People wouldn’t come near you. You couldn’t worship in the temple. You couldn’t participate in any activities or attend any events. You were considered “unclean.” Can you imagine that? This man hadn’t felt a hug, a handshake, or a “hello” in who knows how long. But then he met Jesus.
And when he said, “If you are willing, you can make me clean,” Jesus didn’t just say, “I’m willing.” Jesus touched him. And instantly—just like that—he was clean. He was whole. He was free. The man was no longer bound by leprosy.
Now here’s the part that makes you go, “Wait, what?” Jesus told him not to tell anyone.
Yep. Jesus said, “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” (Mark 1:44, NIV)
Now I’ll be real with you—I don’t fully know why Jesus didn’t want him to speak up. Maybe Jesus didn’t want a crowd just chasing Him for miracles and missing the message. Maybe it was about timing. Maybe He didn’t want to draw too much attention yet. I don’t know. But what I do know is this: when you’ve truly been touched by Jesus, it’s nearly impossible to stay silent.
This man had been an outcast. A nobody. A walking warning label. And suddenly, because of one encounter with Jesus, he had his life back. He was so filled with joy, gratitude, and wonder, that he just couldn’t keep it to himself.
Verse 45 says:
“But the man went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to Him from everywhere.” (Mark 1:45, NIV)
The man didn’t follow directions. But he did follow his heart.
And that heart was bursting with testimony.
We should be the same way. Jesus may not have healed us from leprosy, but He has healed our broken hearts, lifted our burdens, restored our peace, forgiven our sins, and loved us when no one else did. That kind of love—real love—is worth sharing.
If we get excited over clearance sales, relationship updates, and food spots, how much more excited should we be about the Good News of Jesus Christ?
We don’t need a platform. We don’t need a mic.
We just need a willing heart and a receptive spirit.
You don’t have to be a preacher to preach.
You just have to be someone who’s been touched by Jesus and refuses to stay quiet. Consider the man in today’s passage. He didn’t attend seminary or wait until someone validated him. That man had an authentic, genuine touch from the Master and became an instant evangelist telling everyone about Jesus and about his healing testimony.
So, what’s your story?
What has He done for you?
Who needs to hear it?
Let’s stop keeping quiet about the best thing that’s ever happened to us. Let’s be like that man in Mark 1—so overwhelmed by Jesus’ goodness that we tell everyone who will listen.
Because when you’ve really been touched by Jesus, you just can’t keep it to yourself. Help me share the Good News by sharing this blog. You never know who needs to hear that one touch from Jesus can change the trajectory of their life.
I love you and I appreciate you. And remember a blessed soul is A Well-Fed Soul.
