We all have those days. Days when we’re fighting battles no one sees — at work, at home, in our minds — and we feel like we’re running out of strength. The weight gets heavy, and even the strongest among us grow tired.
There’s a powerful story in the Bible that illustrates this exact moment. In Exodus 17, Moses found himself in the middle of a battle — not with a sword, but with his own endurance. As the Israelites fought against the Amalekites, Moses stood on a hill with his staff raised. And here’s where it gets interesting:
As long as Moses kept his hands raised, the Israelites were winning. But when he lowered his hands, the enemy tore them up.
Think about that for a second. Victory wasn’t just about strategy or strength — it hinged on whether Moses could keep his hands lifted. And, as you can imagine, holding up your arms for hours isn’t easy. Moses grew tired. His arms started to drop. That’s when two people — Aaron and Hur — stepped in. They didn’t let him fail. They stood beside him, physically holding up his arms until the battle was won.
Let that sink in: Moses couldn’t do it alone — and neither can you.
This ancient story carries a timeless truth: the people around you can determine whether you win or lose your battles.
We like to believe we’re self-made, that we can handle things on our own. But real strength comes from knowing when to lean on others. When life gets heavy, you need your own Aaron and Hur — the friends, family, mentors, and supporters who will step in and hold you up when you’re too tired to keep going.
Big facts: You are the people you surround yourself with.
If your circle drains you instead of sustaining you, it’s time to evaluate. Are they encouraging you when you’re weak? Or are they watching you struggle without offering a hand?
Proverbs 13:20 says it like this:
"Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm."
In other words, your environment shapes your outcome.
But let’s flip the script for a moment. As much as you need people to hold you up, someone else needs you to be their support too. Who in your life is silently struggling, hoping someone will notice?
Strength isn’t just about fighting your own battles — it’s about showing up for others when they’re ready to give up. So today, take a moment to reflect:
Who’s holding up your arms?
And whose arms can you hold up?
Surround yourself with people who make you stronger. Be someone who makes others stronger. That’s how battles are won — not alone, but together.
Be the Aaron and surround yourself with Aarons.
Until next time…A blessed soul is A Well-Fed Soul!
