For the last several days, I have been posting about faith on our Facebook page. If you are not following us on Facebook by all means, what are you waiting for? The page is growing and that is where many of the upcoming contests, games, and giveaways will be hosted. Become part of the community here.
Anywho to the average person, faith can sometimes feel like an elusive concept, something that's hard to grasp or define or explain. But in reality, faith is something every one of us practice every single day, most times without even realizing it. I will try to simplify faith and break it down into a more understandable, relatable way by using an activity we all do and that is sitting in a chair.
When you approach a chair, you don't usually stop and inspect it. You don't press on it to see if it will support your weight or check the legs to make sure they're sturdy. You just sit down. There's no hesitation, no doubt—you simply trust that the chair will hold you. That’s faith in action in its very simplest form.
Hebrews 11:1 tells us, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith, in its essence, is trust. It’s a deep-seated belief in something, even when you can’t see it or fully understand it. Just like you trust the chair to hold you. You are not aware of the weight limit of the chair or even the quality of the manufacturer of the chair. You know very little about the chair however you sit on it without questioning it. Faith means trusting God to hold you, guide you, and work all things out for your good—even when you can't see how. Faith is you sitting in God and allowing His Holy Spirit to sit in you without questioning it or second guessing it.
For those of you who travel by plane. When you board an airplane, are you aware of the mechanics of flight or how the plane stays in the air? The answer is no for the average person; however, daily travelers trust that the pilots know what they’re doing, that the plane is well-maintained, and that they will reach their destination safely. We have faith in the airline, the pilots, and the plane, even though we can’t see all the details of how it works. That’s the kind of faith God wants us to have in Him. He desires we trust Him with our lives, even when we don’t understand all the details of His plan. We may not always see the big picture, but faith assures us that God does. Faith is about letting go of our need to control everything and trusting that God’s plan is perfect.
Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God. Without faith, it’s impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). Just as you wouldn’t question whether a reliable chair will hold you, faith means you don’t question God’s ability to take care of you, provide for you, and lead you in the right direction.
When life throw challenges our way, it can be tempting to question whether God is really in control or not. But faith reminds us that even when we can't see the outcome, God is still working. When your faith dips low, remember the chair. Just like you trust the chair to hold you, you can trust God to carry you through every situation.
Let us continue with the chair analogy and build our faith. If faith is like sitting in a chair, how do we build it up? Very good question and here is the answer. The more you sit in chairs without them breaking what happens? Correct! The more confident you become that they’ll hold you. In the same way, the more you trust God and see Him come through for you, the stronger your faith becomes.
I suggest starting with small baby steps of faith. Maybe it’s trusting God with a decision you’ve been struggling with or believing that He will provide for a need. As you see God’s faithfulness in these areas, your faith will grow, and you’ll find it easier to trust Him with bigger things.
So, as you have learned, faith is as simple as sitting in a chair without questioning its ability to hold you. It’s a trust that grows stronger with every experience of God’s faithfulness in your life. The next time you find yourself worrying or trying to figure everything out, remember the chair. Sit down in the assurance that God’s got you—no inspections or second-guessing needed.
Let your faith be the foundation that holds you up, just like that chair you sit in every day. Trust in God’s promises, even when you can’t see the whole picture. Because even better than the chair, He’s more than capable of holding you up.
